Spinnaker is delighted to be recruiting for a Renovation Project Manager for Chauncy Maples, the 1898 hospital ship servicing Lake Malawi; a worthy cause with a fascinating history. The charity, the Chauncy Maples Malawi Trust was established in 2009 to raise £2 million to renovate the ship into a clinic.

The steamship was ordered in 1898 by the British Universities' Mission to Central Africa. Designed by Henry Brunel (the son of Isambard Kingdom Brunel) and Sir John Barry (designer of London's Tower Bridge), it was built in Glasgow, dismantled, and transported to Africa where it was carried on the heads of men and women, in packages to Lake Malawi.

During the First World War she was requisitioned to serve as a troop carrier and naval gunboat, and is now in need of refurbishment – which is where we come in.

The role, which can be viewed on our website, is a really exciting project, and we are honoured to be part of the Chauncy Maples project.
