Spinnaker is delighted to have been involved in the recruitment of Matt Summerson as the new Head of Shipping at commodity trading group ED&F Man. Spinnaker's Executive Search business was appointed by ED&F Man earlier this year to assist the supramax specialist with finding a successor to ED&F Man stalwart Jim Everson, who is to retire shortly.

Summerson, who until recently ran a freight portfolio at JP Morgan Chase, began his career as a broker, charting up experience at Clarksons and SSY, before joining Constellation Energy and Goldman Sachs.

"Matt has big shoes to fill," says Eric Branson, Head of Commercial at Spinnaker. "Jim is handing over a business that, unlike many, he can proudly say has been profitable through good times and bad."

"The shipping business at ED&F offers a strong foundation therefore and a variety of opportunities to someone with Matt's background, comprising, as it does, an operating business carrying third party cargoes, in-house cargo obligations and a competitive shipbroking business. In him, ED&F Man have found a natural successor to Jim, ably supported by fellow director Trevor Marsh."

ED&F Man have supported this view by saying "We are happy to welcome Matt to ED&F Man and are optimistic about the plans to further develop our already successful and well established shipping business."
