Shore-based salary survey

Shore-based salaries 2018

Do you want to know what Operations staff should be earning in Singapore? Or what bonus to pay your Chartering staff in the US?

The Maritime HR Association has recently published its 2018 salary survey reports – the most reliable source of benchmarking data for global shore-based shipping jobs and the 12th set of reports since the Association formed in 2005.

This year the reports reflect data from 86 member companies – including shipowners in the tanker, bulk, cruise, liner and offshore sectors, shipmanagers, oil companies and commodity groups.

Base salary, fixed cash allowances and bonus data was collated for more than 25,000 maritime industry professionals in 94 countries including maritime executives, with new locations of the Netherlands and South Africa reported this year.

The types of roles captured in the survey include maritime specialisms such as Chartering, Commercial Operations and Shipmanagement among others – as well as corporate support functions (HR, IT, Finance, Marketing, Risk) and Executive Leadership Team positions.

Reports are generated in accordance with US anti-trust regulations, meaning salary data is only reported where there are at least five companies providing data for any given role in any given location. This enables employers to share their data with confidence and ensures the findings reflect a meaningful sample. The results can be used to support annual pay and bonus decisions, as well as for recruitment purposes or in response to ad hoc requests.
