The OSCAR Dragon Boat Race

30 teams on target to raise £2million for OSCAR

The shipping industry has stepped up to the challenge of hitting the £2million milestone for the OSCAR Campaign at Great Ormond Street Hospital: in fact, a record 30 teams have signed up to compete in the OSCAR Dragon Boat Race in London International Shipping Week and the event is now at capacity two months out.

Organised by Spinnaker, the 6th annual OSCAR Dragon Boat Race has previously welcomed around 300 guests, but numbers this year will exceed that with the addition of an incredible 8 extra teams for 2019. The teams confirmed to race are:

Hill Dickinson, Swire Bulk/JSS, BDO LLP, LISCR, C Solutions, NEPIA, Britannia P&I/Tindall Riley, CJC Law, Borealis Maritime, Shipowners Club, Thomas Miller (Marine), Union Maritime, Lomar Shipping, A.M. Nomikos, Lloyd’s Register, Ince Gordon Dadds, Beazley, Baltic Exchange, MSC Cruises/Cruise Management, LOC Group, multiple teams from Golar LNG and IG Group, event hosts Spinnaker, and additional teams from Spinnaker’s local supporters from Leigh-on-Sea, UK.

Set to be the finale of London International Shipping Week on Friday 13 September in London’s Docklands, the event is now expected to attract over 400 attendees. Now that racing teams are full, individuals are invited to attend as spectators for a small fee payable to the OSCAR Campaign, which funds vital research into childhood diseases. The OSCAR Campaign was founded by Spinnaker’s Phil Parry and named after his son, Oscar, who received pioneering and lifesaving treatment at GOSH as a child.
