Freight Trader (Handys)- Singapore

Join our Singapore-based client’s Freight team as a Handy Trader, focusing on the Handysize markets across Asia Pacific. This role combines strategic freight trading with risk management in one of the world’s most dynamic shipping markets.
 
You’ll manage pricing, positioning, and business development while working with both internal commodity teams and external clients to optimize our regional freight operations.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Price and manage freight risks for internal and external clients
• Develop third-party relationships to expand cargo flow opportunities
• Execute arbitrage strategies across derivatives, physical positions, and period vessels
• Negotiate rates and identify trading opportunities using market analytics
• Collaborate with global teams to optimize vessel employment and trading strategies
• Drive business development with industrial cargo clients
• Ensure smooth contract execution and compliance with all requirements

What We’re Looking For

• Minimum 5 years in shipping (dry bulk/Handysize/Supramax preferred)
• Strong understanding of freight markets, supply & demand dynamics
• Experience with charter party negotiations and freight calculations
• Cross-regional commercial team collaboration

Skills:

• Advanced Excel proficiency
• Strong analytical and statistical capabilities
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
• Self-motivated problem solver with high emotional intelligence
• Experience with BI tools, Python, SQL advantageous

Education:

• Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Maritime Studies or related field
• Fluent English; additional ASEAN language beneficial
