Senior Cargo Broker – London

An independent insurance broker is looking to appoint an experienced Cargo Broker to establish and grow its Cargo proposition.
 
With an excellent reputation across Marine, Hull & Machinery, P&I and Yachts, the business is now looking to invest in Cargo as its next area of strategic growth. This is a rare opportunity to join a collaborative, entrepreneurial firm where you’ll have the autonomy to build a specialist offering with the full support of an experienced leadership team.
 
For the right individual, this appointment could be made at Head of Cargo level, providing the opportunity to shape the firm’s long-term Cargo strategy and build the division over time.
 
Rather than inheriting an existing portfolio, you’ll be responsible for developing the Cargo proposition, strengthening market relationships, and becoming the firm’s recognised Cargo specialist. This is an opportunity to create something of your own, without the bureaucracy often associated with larger organisations.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Establish and develop the firm’s Cargo insurance offering within the London market.
• Build and maintain relationships with cargo owners, freight forwarders, logistics companies, traders and other key industry stakeholders.
• Place Cargo risks into the London insurance market and negotiate competitive terms with insurers.
• Develop new business opportunities through your market knowledge, relationships and reputation.
• Act as the firm’s technical Cargo expert, supporting clients and colleagues with specialist advice.
• Work closely with the leadership team to shape the long-term strategy and direction of the Cargo division.
• Represent the business at client meetings, networking events and across the wider insurance market.

 
Requirements

• Proven experience as a Cargo Broker within the London insurance market.
• Strong technical knowledge of Cargo insurance and associated risks.
• Well-established relationships across the Cargo and Marine insurance markets.
• Commercial mindset with the ability to develop long-term client relationships.
• Entrepreneurial approach and the ambition to build and grow a specialist business area.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Existing leadership experience is advantageous but not essential. The title and level of responsibility will reflect the successful candidate’s experience and the value they can bring to the business.
