The company
  
Our client is an established dry bulk owner and operator with commercial office in the Middle East. They control a growing chartered-in Panamax and Kamsarmax fleet and trade actively across spot, period and COA business. The company is expanding its dry bulk commercial platform and this role sits at the centre of that plan.

The role
  
You will take ownership of the Panamax and Kamsarmax chartering book in the Middle East office. The role sits close to the VP Commercial and carries direct responsibility for fixing, evaluation and P&L contribution, with one direct report.
  
Key responsibilities

• Charter in and employ tonnage on spot, period, voyage charter and COA basis, in line with the fleet plan and budget
• Execute buy and sell orders in the Panamax and Kamsarmax market, using market intelligence to optimise trading decisions
• Fix vessels against contracts and nominate performing ships on time
• Negotiate time charter parties, voyage charter parties and COAs, including cargo and trading exclusions, ahead of fixing
• Produce sharp and accurate voyage estimates and business proposals for approval
• Monitor freight rates, supply and demand dynamics and geopolitical risk, and apply hedging where appropriate
• Build and maintain relationships with owners, charterers, pool operators and brokers to source cargo and tonnage
• Report on P&L, trading volumes and market share, and work alongside operations, technical, legal and finance internally

What we are looking for

• Minimum 10 years in chartering or commercial operations within dry bulk
• Hands-on Panamax and Kamsarmax chartering experience, ideally on the owner or operator side
• Strong voyage estimation and charter party negotiation skills
• A live network of owners, charterers and brokers in the Atlantic and Pacific
• Comfortable working across two offices in different time zones
• Degree or diploma in shipping, or equivalent commercial experience. An MBA is an advantage
• Prior supervisory experience, or the appetite to take on a small team
