Freight Trader (Dry Bulk) – London
  
We are working with an established international shipping group looking to add an experienced Dry Bulk Freight Trader to its London commercial team.
  
This is a commercially focused role for someone who understands how to trade physical freight, identify opportunities across cargo and tonnage, and make informed decisions around changing dry bulk market conditions.
  
The role would suit someone currently working within an owner/operator, commodity trader, operating house, chartering business or leading dry cargo brokerage who wants genuine exposure to commercial decision-making on the principal side.
  
The role
  
You will be involved across the physical dry bulk freight market, including:

• Identifying and evaluating cargo and tonnage opportunities
• Negotiating and concluding voyage and time charter business
• Developing relationships with cargo interests, owners, operators and brokers
• Monitoring vessel supply, cargo flows and freight market developments
• Assessing opportunities across spot and forward freight
• Supporting the development of cargo coverage and commercial relationships
• Managing freight exposure and contributing to commercial trading decisions
• Working closely with operations and other commercial functions to maximise the outcome of fixtures
• Using FFAs and other freight risk tools where appropriate

This is not simply an execution role. The successful candidate will be expected to understand the economics behind a fixture, form a view on the market and contribute commercially to how freight opportunities are approached.
  
Experience required

• Minimum 5 years’ experience within dry bulk chartering, freight trading or dry cargo shipbroking
• Strong understanding of physical dry bulk freight markets
• Good knowledge of cargo flows, vessel supply and the factors driving freight rates
• Established relationships across the dry bulk market
• Strong negotiation and communication skills
• Commercial mindset with the ability to identify and act on freight opportunities

Particularly relevant experience
  
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

• Cargo origination
• Physical freight trading
• Period tonnage
• Freight risk management
• FFA trading or hedging
• Commodity trading environments
• Owner/operator chartering
• Commercial responsibility for a freight book or P&L
• IMOS, Sedna, PortLog or similar maritime systems
