About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Technical Manager to join a leading international maritime organisation. This is a pivotal role within a dynamic and forward-thinking team, responsible for ensuring the technical reliability, operational efficiency, and safety of a diverse fleet of vessels.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional with a strong background in vessel operations, technical management, and a proven ability to lead and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the technical operations of assigned vessels, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with international standards.
- Lead and support onboard staff, including Chief Engineers, to ensure effective communication and operational success.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise vessel inspections, dry-docking activities, and maintenance schedules within budget.
- Monitor vessel performance, implement corrective actions, and ensure compliance with class, flag, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage operational and capital expenditure (OpEx & CapEx) budgets for maintenance, repairs, and dry-docking.
- Evaluate and ensure the quality of services provided by shipyards, workshops, and suppliers.
- Contribute to decarbonisation initiatives and provide insights for future vessel designs to enhance safety and efficiency.
- Prepare and deliver detailed reports to senior management on vessel performance, maintenance, and operational improvements.
- Travel globally as required to support vessels, oversee projects, and conduct technical inspections.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Minimum of 2 years’ shore-based experience in technical management or a similar role.
- Previous seafaring experience as a Chief Engineer (C/E).
- Strong background in managing container vessels. Experience with PCTCs (Pure Car and Truck Carriers) is advantageous.
- In-depth knowledge of conventional and electronic engine types, dry-docking processes, and vessel maintenance.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, negotiate effectively, and implement cost-saving measures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with crew, peers, and senior management.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle crisis situations with urgency and resourcefulness.
