Head of Placing – London

A leading international shipowning group is seeking a Head of Placing to lead its London-based marine insurance strategy.
The business operates a substantial, actively trading fleet north of 100 vessels and places a significant premium into the London market. This appointment sits at the centre of that programme, with responsibility for how risk is structured, positioned, negotiated and ultimately placed.
Interviews are expected in late January to February 2026.
 
The Opportunity
This role carries full ownership of the group’s marine insurance placing strategy across core lines, including H&M, P&I and associated liabilities. The successful candidate will act as the primary interface with the London market, setting direction, managing senior relationships and ensuring the programme is consistently presented in a disciplined and commercial manner.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Lead and control marine insurance placing and renewal strategy across all core classes.
• Own senior relationships within the London insurance market.
• Advise internal stakeholders on programme structure, coverage design and market dynamics.
• Drive consistency and clarity in the presentation of risk.
• Operate as a trusted authority rather than a transactional intermediary.

 
Candidate Profile

• Demonstrable senior experience in marine insurance placing.
• Deep, current and credible relationships in the London market.
• Strong commercial judgement with the confidence to challenge brokers, underwriters and internal stakeholders when required.
• Background may be broker, underwriter or in-house, provided the capability translates at this level.
