Operations Manager – Harbour Tugs – Papua New Guinea

Our client is seeking an experienced and driven Operations Manager – Harbour Tugs to oversee the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of their harbour tug fleet. This is a key leadership role responsible for day-to-day marine operations, crew management, asset performance, and stakeholder coordination within a busy port environment.
The successful candidate will combine strong operational expertise with excellent leadership skills and a deep understanding of harbour towage operations.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily harbour tug operations to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable service delivery
• Lead, mentor, and manage tug crews, including rostering, performance management, and training
• Ensure full compliance with maritime legislation, safety management systems, and company procedures
• Oversee maintenance planning and coordination to maximise fleet availability and reliability
• Liaise with port authorities, pilots, vessel agents, and other key stakeholders
• Monitor operational performance, costs, and KPIs, driving continuous improvement
• Respond to operational incidents and emergencies, ensuring appropriate reporting and follow-up
• Support audits, inspections, and regulatory requirements

About You

• Proven experience in harbour tug operations or marine operations management
• Strong knowledge of port operations, towage practices, and maritime safety systems
• Demonstrated leadership and people management capability
• Excellent organisational, communication, and decision-making skills
• Ability to perform under pressure in a 24/7 operational environment
• You will have sailed to Master Mariner or Chief Officer
