The Technical Safety Manager is responsible for the technical management, maintenance, and operational reliability of bulk carrier vessels, ensuring full compliance with company standards, class (BV/ABS), and international regulations. As a forward-thinking organization, we require a proactive individual who can bridge the gap between traditional engineering and modern maritime trends, including sustainability, fuel efficiency, and digital system adoption.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Management & HSQE Compliance
- HSQE Documentation: Take ownership of technical reporting, including writing detailed root-cause analysis (RCA) and incident investigation reports to satisfy requirements from PSC, RightShip, and other industry stakeholders.
- Monitor machinery, cargo equipment, and ballast systems, specifically within the bulk carrier sector.
- Coordinate class and statutory surveys and verify timely corrective actions for any deficiencies.
- Manage the technical condition and maintenance of assigned vessels to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Sustainability & Innovation
- Sustainability Support: Provide guidance to the Sustainability Team on emission‑reduction measures within the scope of marine technology whenever such requests arise.
- Future Tech: Maintain an open-minded approach towards adopting new industry trends, such as AI applications and advanced environmental solutions. Take personal initiative to explore emerging technologies and recommend ways they can be applied to enhance vessel safety and improve fuel efficiency.
Digital Systems & PMS
- Software Adoption: Act as a “tech-savvy” end-user to quickly learn and utilize new software and programs.
- PMS Management: Collaborate with the ABS and IT teams on the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) to ensure data accuracy, equipment hierarchies, and audit readiness.
- Train shipboard personnel in PMS best practices and ensure ongoing fleet compliance.
Travel & Support
- Attend vessels worldwide to conduct inspections and supervise repairs.
- Provide high-level technical guidance to Masters and Chief Engineers.
Qualifications & Experience
- Marine Engineering License: Chief Engineer (C/E) or Second Engineer (2/E).
- Industry Experience: 5-10 years of experience on cargo merchant ships or in shore-based technical management.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with MC-E main engine, fuel-efficiency technologies is highly preferred. Experience with dual-fuel engines is a big plus.
Citizenship: US citizen or green card holder.
