An established and growing PCTC owner/operator based in London is looking to hire a experienced Vessel Operator to join their operations team. This is a hands-on role at the heart of the business, working closely with vessels, port agents, and commercial teams to ensure the smooth day-to-day management of a fleet of Pure Car and Truck Carriers.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operational oversight of assigned PCTC vessels, maintaining close liaison with Masters and onboard teams
- Coordinate port calls end-to-end – berthing arrangements, port agency instructions, cargo operations, and turnaround planning
- Monitor vessel performance, voyage progress, and fuel consumption, flagging deviations and implementing corrective actions
- Prepare and review voyage instructions, stowage plans, and cargo intake calculations in line with commercial requirements
- Liaise with the chartering and post-fixture teams to ensure smooth handover of voyage information and timely resolution of operational issues
- Manage P&I matters, off-hire events, and incidents in coordination with the relevant clubs and underwriters
- Ensure compliance with flag state requirements, class obligations, port state control standards, and company HSQE policies
- Support dry docking and repair projects as required, drawing on first-hand vessel knowledge
- Build and maintain effective relationships with port agents, terminals, and service providers globally
Requirements –
Essential
- Seagoing background on PCTC / RoRo vessels to at least Chief Officer level
- STCW Officer of the Watch (Management Level) certification as a minimum; Chief Officer CoC preferred
- Solid understanding of PCTC cargo operations including lashing, stowage, and ramp/deck management
- Shore-based vessel operations experience is advantageous but not a prerequisite – strong seafarers looking to transition ashore will be considered
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple vessels/priorities simultaneously
- Proficiency with standard maritime software and Microsoft Office
Desirable
- Experience at Master level on PCTCs
- Previous shore-based operations or post-fixture role within the automotive/RoRo sector
- Familiarity with Navisphere, IMOS, or similar maritime ERP platforms
- Knowledge of OEM/automotive cargo handling standards and expectations
