Marine Claims Specialist – Hamburg

A well-established, independent marine insurance broker is looking to strengthen its claims capability with the addition of a Marine Claims Specialist.

This is an opportunity to join a highly respected, relationship-driven business operating across the European maritime market.

The firm manages a diverse portfolio spanning inland and coastal risks, with exposure ranging from the Black Sea through to the Atlantic. Their approach is deliberately personal and service-led, prioritising long-term client relationships over transactional broking.

This role sits at the centre of that model.

You will be responsible for handling a wide range of marine claims across H&M, P&I and associated lines, working closely with shipowners, insurers, and external experts. Every case is different, and you will be expected to take ownership, apply judgement, and deliver outcomes rather than simply process files.

This is not a back-office claims role. You will be visible to clients, involved in discussions, and expected to build trust through both technical ability and communication.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Manage marine claims from first notification through to settlement across H&M, P&I, and related classes
• Act as a key point of contact for clients and insurers, providing clear guidance throughout the claims process
• Analyse policy wordings and coverage positions to support effective claims resolution
• Appoint and coordinate surveyors, lawyers, and other experts where required
• Handle recoveries and subrogation processes
• Maintain accurate claims records and produce reporting and analysis where needed
• Attend client meetings and industry events across Europe

Requirements

• Experience in marine claims handling, ideally across H&M and/or P&I
• Strong understanding of policy structures, claims processes, and market practice
• Able to manage claims independently and take ownership of outcomes
• Commercial mindset with the ability to engage directly with clients
• Fluent German and English preferred
