We’re supporting a well-known ferry operator in the search for a DGSA & HSSE Assurance Manager to provide expert dangerous goods oversight and independent HSSE assurance across vessel and port operations.
This is a key role bridging ship and shore, focused on strengthening compliance, improving safety performance, and reducing operational risk across a complex, multi-site environment.
The Role
You will act as the appointed Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) while leading a structured HSSE assurance programme across ferry and port operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as DGSA, ensuring compliance with ADR, IMDG Code and applicable regulations
- Providing expert advice on DG handling, stowage, classification and emergency response (including Class 7)
- Leading DG and HSSE incident investigations and embedding lessons learned
- Delivering DG training across fleet and port teams
- Developing and implementing a risk-based audit and assurance programme
- Supporting ISO standards (14001 / 45001) and external audits
- Acting as a key interface with regulators and external stakeholders
- Driving a strong safety culture across both ship and shore operations
What We’re Looking For
- Certified DGSA with strong ADR / IMDG knowledge
- Proven experience with Class 7 (radioactive materials)
- 7-10+ years’ HSSE experience in high-risk operational environments (shipping, ports, logistics, etc.)
- Strong incident investigation experience (e.g. ICAM or equivalent)
- Experience delivering DG training
- Commercial awareness and ability to balance compliance with operational needs
Desirable:
- Ferry, RoRo or port operations experience
- Knowledge of ISO 14001 / 45001
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
