A 3rd Engineering Officer and the founder of ShipMates Network, she is helping seafarers connect, build confidence, and advance their careers. What makes Amilia truly remarkable isn’t just her rise in a male-dominated industry, but the way she’s using her experience to create real, lasting impact for others.

Entering maritime without a traditional engineering background, Amilia faced steep learning curves from day one. She overcame injury setbacks, intensive cadetship training, and the challenge of being the only woman aboard her vessel to become a competent, respected officer. Yet she didn’t stop there, she turned these experiences into action, founding ShipMates Network to support seafarers facing isolation, career uncertainty, or simply the challenge of being heard in an industry that can feel vast and impersonal.

ShipMates Network has grown quickly into a trusted space for mentorship, networking, and discussion of issues like wellbeing, inclusion, and career development. Through webinars, panels, and peer support initiatives, Amilia is helping shape a more connected and supportive maritime community. Her work has already earned industry recognition, from the Bevis Minter Award to a spot in the Top 100 Women in Shipping, but it’s the real-world impact, lifting others up while excelling in a demanding role at sea, that makes her stand out.
