Technical Superintendent – Tankers – Singapore

We are working with an established third-party ship management company seeking an experienced Technical Superintendent to oversee the safe, reliable and cost-effective management of approximately four tanker vessels.

This position would suit a former tanker Chief Engineer who has transitioned ashore and gained practical technical superintendent experience. The successful candidate will work closely with vessel crews and the wider technical team to ensure the fleet complies with company standards, class requirements and all applicable maritime regulations.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the technical performance, maintenance and reliability of approximately four tanker vessels.
  • Ensure compliance with Classification Society, Flag State, Port State, oil major and other regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor planned maintenance systems, outstanding maintenance and monthly work schedules.
  • Maintain oversight of vessel certification, class status and survey requirements.
  • Manage and control allocated vessel operating and maintenance budgets.
  • Report machinery failures, structural issues and other technical matters that could create a risk to the vessel, crew or cargo.
  • Coordinate corrective repairs arising from inspections, deficiencies, failures and non-conformities.
  • Review bunker and lubricating oil analysis results, highlighting abnormalities and required actions.
  • Prepare and review dry-docking specifications, repair scopes and preliminary tender comparisons.
  • Attend and supervise dry dockings and major repairs, ensuring work is completed in accordance with the agreed specification.
  • Review repair reports, measurements, technical records and contractor invoices.
  • Maintain regular communication with vessel crews, senior superintendents and the Technical Manager.

Essential requirements

  • Minimum of two to three years’ sailing experience as Chief Engineer aboard tanker vessels.
  • At least one year of shore-based experience as a Technical Superintendent or in a comparable vessel-management position.
  • Tanker experience is essential, although candidates currently managing other vessel types may be considered if they previously sailed as Chief Engineer on tankers.
  • Hands-on involvement in at least one physical dry docking, attended and supervised on site.
  • Degree or recognised qualification in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of vessel maintenance, class requirements, planned maintenance systems and maritime regulations.
  • Good budgetary and cost-control experience.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with multinational vessel crews and shore-based colleagues.

Package and benefits

  • Salary paid on a 13-month basis.
  • Performance-related bonus.
  • 25 days’ annual leave.
  • Medical insurance
  • One-off relocation assistance, including flights
