9am-10am
Panel One: Are you struggling to find and retain the right people? Building a future-ready workforce

Research shows that over 40% of the maritime workforce is over 50 and with an ageing workforce this session looks at how we can attract (and retain) the younger generation to the industry.

Join us as we try to uncover what are the drivers and motivators of the younger generation? What future skills are required for the maritime sector and how do we ensure we are prepared for technology that possibly doesn’t currently exist?

We will be joined by young people working in the sector to help us better understand how we can compete against other industries – especially for roles in technology, AI and sustainability. We will also discuss the best way to raise awareness of maritime whilst showcasing the benefits of a non-traditional education path for those looking to gain experience and also education without incurring inordinate amounts of debt.
  • Chair – Phil Parry, CEO, Spinnaker
  • Alina Prylipko, Programme Manager, MLA College
  • Jennifer Harrison, VP Training Solutions, ABS

The panel will also be joined by Gen Z-ers Jeremy Liew an Engineer at ABS Europe and Max Downton, Associate ESG Manager at Navigator Gas.

10-11am
Panel Two: Occupational Health: The hidden cost of the modern workforce

Over 1.8 million UK workers grapple with work-related ill health each year - and poor occupational health costs the economy more than £20 billion annually. Mental ill health is one of the top reasons employees take extended time off, and the ripple effects impact businesses, teams and individuals alike.

Join us for an insightful and practical session dedicated to helping employers take meaningful steps to support their employees’ mental wellbeing. With the help of an experienced counselling psychologist who works with individuals facing depression, anxiety and burnout, we will:

  • Decode the early warning signs of mental health struggles in the workplace
  • Offer actionable tools to help managers respond with confidence, compassion and care
  • Navigate employers’ legal responsibilities
  • Explore inclusive approaches to neurodiversity as diagnoses rise among working adults

  • Chair - Heidi Watson, Employment Partner, Clyde & Co
  • Simon Brittz, Lead Psychologist, HCA Healthcare UK
  • Alex Walster, Head of People and Culture, Navigator Gas
  • Jennifer Murphy, HR Business Partner, Thomas Miller
