Marine Claims Executive – Barcelona

A leading international container shipping group is seeking a Claims Executive to join its Legal & Claims function in Barcelona. This is a hands-on role within a global operating environment, suited to someone early-to-mid career who wants real exposure to international shipping claims rather than a narrow, back-office processing role.
You will sit within a central claims team supporting commercial hubs across Europe, Asia and the Americas, working closely with operations, legal, P&I Clubs and external correspondents. The role offers genuine breadth across cargo, off hire, charterparty and operational claims, with direct visibility to senior stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, assess and manage claims relating to damaged, lost or delayed cargo shipments.
• Conduct factual and contractual investigations, coordinating with operations, logistics and commercial teams.
• Assess liability exposure and quantum in line with contracts, regulations and internal policy.
• Handle claims involving customers, vessel owners, terminals and other counterparties across multiple regions.
• Liaise with P&I Clubs, surveyors, correspondents and external advisers as required.
• Manage charterparty-related matters including time bars, off-hire calculations and recovery processes.
• Prepare clear claim reports and maintain accurate records for audit and management review.
• Provide regular claims updates to regional hubs and contribute to periodic management reporting.
• Support analysis of claims trends to identify risk, cost and process improvement opportunities.

Requirements

• 2-5 years’ experience in claims handling within shipping, marine insurance, logistics or a closely related sector.
• Working knowledge of international shipping practices, charterparties and marine liability concepts.
• Exposure to P&I Club interaction is strongly preferred. Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess liability and contractual positions.
• Clear, confident communicator able to deal with internal and external stakeholders.
• Highly organised, detail-focused and comfortable managing multiple live matters.
• Proficient with standard office systems and claims or case management tools.
• Legal right to work in Spain.
