A specialist marine risk management consultancy is seeking a Senior Claims Manager to oversee and manage a complex portfolio of P&I claims. The role combines hands-on claims handling with leadership responsibility, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, cost-effective service while maintaining strong client relationships and mentoring junior team members. Ideal profiles will have a minimum of 5 years of experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee complex P&I claims from notification through to resolution, including high-value and sensitive matters
- Provide technical guidance and oversight on claims strategy, liability assessment, reserves, and settlement
- Investigate, analyse, negotiate, and resolve claims in accordance with operational guidelines and best practice
- Act as a senior point of contact for assureds/clients, brokers, correspondents, lawyers, and other stakeholders
- Build and maintain long-term, trusted relationships with clients and assureds
- Supervise, mentor, and support junior claims handlers, contributing to their development and performance
- Engage with internal teams and external networks to support effective claims handling and knowledge sharing
- Manage and monitor supplier and legal spend to ensure cost-effective outcomes
- Support claims reporting, MI, and process improvement initiatives
- Contribute to best practice, procedural development, and continuous improvement within the claims function
Person Specification, Experience & Skills
- Significant experience in P&I or marine claims handling, ideally within a club, insurer, or marine consultancy environment
- Strong technical knowledge across P&I claims and related marine liabilities
- Proven ability to manage complex, high-value, or multi-jurisdictional claims
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, and decision-making skills
- Experience supervising or mentoring claims professionals
- Confident communicator with strong stakeholder and client management capabilities
