An established marine operator is seeking an experienced H&M & P&I Claims Officer to join its operations in Papua New Guinea, supporting a diverse fleet across towage, container shipping, and coastal logistics.
This is a rare opportunity to take on a broad, operationally embedded claims role within a developing market, offering full exposure across both Hull & Machinery and P&I matters in a hands-on environment.
The position is based in Papua New Guinea and requires relocation on a full expatriate package.

- Liaise with P&I Clubs, underwriters, surveyors, and legal representatives
- Handle incident reporting, investigation, and claims documentation
- Provide guidance to onshore and vessel-based teams on claims procedures and risk mitigation
- Monitor claims reserves, recovery actions, and settlement processes
- Support internal stakeholders on insurance coverage and claims-related matters
- Contribute to improving claims handling processes and reporting standards
Requirements
- Experience within marine insurance or shipping (claims, P&I Club, insurer, or broker)
- Strong working knowledge of H&M and P&I claims handling
- Experience dealing with marine casualties, investigations, and external stakeholders
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, operational environment rather than a purely desk-based role
- Strong communication skills with the ability to deal with international counterparties
- Willingness to relocate to Papua New Guinea on an expatriate assignment
Package & Benefits
- Initial 3-month period on a day rate (pending visa processing), transitioning to a full-time contract
- Competitive salary (PNG taxes covered by employer)
- Accommodation, car, medical, and club membership provided
- 24 days annual leave plus annual bonus
- Family support including travel and schooling
