Chartering Manager / Chartering Executive – London

We are working with a well-established international shipowner looking to add to its commercial team in London.

This is an opportunity for someone with a strong grounding in commercial shipping who wants to develop further within chartering and take on increasing responsibility over time.

The successful candidate will work closely with management and alongside an experienced Chartering Manager, gaining direct exposure to commercial decision-making, vessel employment and chartering strategy.

The role

You will support and manage the commercial employment of an assigned fleet, with responsibility developing as you gain experience.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting spot chartering activity and vessel employment decisions
  • Monitoring market movements, fixtures and freight trends
  • Developing commercial recommendations based on market conditions
  • Negotiating charter party terms and commercial conditions
  • Maintaining relationships with charterers, brokers and other market counterparties
  • Supporting charter party administration and post-fixture commercial matters
  • Reviewing voyage economics and commercial opportunities
  • Providing market intelligence and commercial input to senior management
  • Working closely with operations and other internal departments
  • Taking on greater chartering responsibility as your experience develops

Who we are looking for

We are open-minded on background and are particularly interested in candidates who are still developing their commercial shipping career.

Relevant backgrounds could include:

  • Chartering
  • Shipbroking
  • Sale & Purchase
  • Newbuildings
  • Commercial analysis
  • Tanker or dry bulk commercial operations

You should have a good understanding of shipping markets and demonstrate strong commercial judgement, numerical ability and negotiation skills.

Previous direct chartering experience would be useful, but it is not essential where someone can demonstrate relevant commercial exposure and a genuine desire to develop within chartering.

This could suit someone currently working as a Chartering Executive, Junior Broker, Shipbroker, S&P Broker, Newbuilding Broker or Commercial Executive who is looking to move closer to principal-side commercial decision-making.

The opportunity
The company is prepared to consider someone at Chartering Manager level or appoint a more junior candidate as a Chartering Executive.

There is a clear progression path for someone who performs well, with the opportunity to take on increasing ownership of vessel employment, negotiations and commercial strategy.

For someone looking to build a long-term career within owner-side chartering, this offers direct exposure to senior commercial leadership and meaningful responsibility from an early stage.
