We are working with an established international shipowner looking to add a Chartering Manager to its London-based commercial team as part of continued business growth.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone in the earlier stages of their chartering career who is looking to take on greater commercial responsibility within a well-established shipping organisation.
Reporting directly to the Commercial Director and working alongside an experienced Chartering Manager, you will be responsible for the spot chartering and commercial employment of vessels across the company’s Container/PCTC fleet.
The Role Your responsibilities will include:
- Securing employment for assigned vessels at optimal rates and terms
- Managing spot chartering activity and vessel fixtures
- Marketing the fleet to existing and prospective clients
- Developing and maintaining relationships with charterers, clients and shipbrokers
- Negotiating Charter Party terms and conditions
- Monitoring freight markets, open cargoes and fixture activity
- Providing regular market intelligence and recommendations to senior management
- Identifying new commercial opportunities and potential areas for business development
- Supporting the development and implementation of the company’s chartering strategy
- Maintaining accurate fixture documentation and position lists
- Providing commercial advice relating to vessel operations and demurrage exposure
- Developing a strong understanding of worldwide and cross-sector chartering conditions
About You We are looking for someone with:
- Approximately 3–5 years’ experience within the shipping industry
- Previous exposure to chartering, shipbroking or a closely related commercial shipping role
- A good understanding of chartering markets and commercial shipping
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills
- Good commercial awareness and an interest in freight markets
- The confidence to communicate with charterers, brokers and internal stakeholders
- A degree or equivalent qualification
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams and PowerPoint
Experience within the Container and/or PCTC/RoRo markets would be particularly relevant.
The successful candidate does not need to be the finished article. This role would suit an ambitious commercial shipping professional who wants to develop their chartering career and take on increasing responsibility within an international shipowning environment.
