About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced HSEQ Training & Compliance Superintendent to join their maritime operations team and play a key role in promoting safety, compliance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across a fleet of company-managed vessels.
This is a hands-on role for an experienced maritime professional who is passionate about developing people and strengthening safety standards at sea. You will regularly travel to vessels and sail onboard to deliver practical safety and on-the-job training, conduct compliance audits, assess crew performance, and support the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
Working closely with vessel management and senior HSEQ leadership, you will help ensure that crews are well prepared, vessels operate in accordance with applicable regulations and company standards, and lessons learned are translated into measurable improvements across the fleet.
Key Responsibilities

• Develop, coordinate, and deliver comprehensive HSEQ and safety training programmes for officers and crew.
• Conduct practical on-the-job training and coaching tailored to the operational requirements of individual vessels.
• Support crew members in improving technical skills, operational practices, emergency preparedness, and personal safety.
• Conduct regular HSEQ compliance audits and vessel assessments, identifying areas of non-compliance and supporting effective corrective actions.
• Monitor implementation of the company’s Safety Management System (SMS) onboard vessels.
• Assess vessel and crew performance and identify opportunities for further training, development, and improvement.
• Maintain accurate records of training, audits, assessments, findings, corrective actions, and performance evaluations.
• Prepare clear reports and recommendations for senior management.
• Assist with the investigation of incidents and near misses, including root-cause analysis and development of preventive measures.
• Monitor trends in safety, technical, and environmental performance and contribute to initiatives aimed at reducing incidents and non-conformities.
• Support continuous improvement of training materials, safety procedures, operational practices, and compliance programmes.
• Keep up to date with changes to international maritime regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
• Coordinate and deliver up-to-date training to officers and crew based on regulatory and operational requirements.
• Contribute to the development and retention of a strong pool of qualified officers and crew.
• Work collaboratively with vessel management, shipboard personnel, and shore-based HSEQ teams to drive a consistent safety culture across the fleet.

What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a senior maritime professional with strong sea-going experience, excellent communication skills, and a genuine commitment to safety, compliance, and crew development.
Essential qualifications and experience:

• Class 1 Master or Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency.
• Significant sea service as a Master, Chief Engineer, or senior deck/engine officer.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in maritime operations.
• Strong working knowledge of international maritime regulations, including:
• SOLAS
• MARPOL
• STCW
• MLC 2006
• ISM / ISPS requirements
• Proven experience in safety, compliance, training, auditing, or a related maritime shore-based function.
• Strong understanding of incident investigation and root-cause analysis.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Strong computer literacy.

Desirable qualifications:

• ISM / ISO Auditor certification.
• Previous experience within a maritime Safety or HSEQ department.
• Train the Trainer or equivalent training qualification.
• Experience with DNV M-SCATT or similar incident investigation methodology.
