MPC – Hull/Cargo Underwriter – Germany

An established marine insurance company is looking to connect with experienced Hull & Machinery and Cargo Underwriters to join its teams across Germany.
 
This opportunity would suit an underwriter looking to develop their career within an established marine insurance business with an international portfolio. The company underwrites a range of marine risks, with a focus on Northern Europe alongside exposure to global shipping markets.
 
Candidates with experience in Hull & Machinery or Cargo underwriting are encouraged to apply. The business is also open to individuals from related technical backgrounds, including risk management and naval architecture, who are looking to move into underwriting. International candidates are welcome, and German language training and relocation support may be available where required.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Underwrite marine insurance risks across Hull & Machinery or Cargo, depending on your experience.
• Assess submissions, evaluate risk exposures and determine appropriate underwriting terms.
• Manage and develop relationships with brokers, clients and other market stakeholders.
• Review risk information, vessel details and relevant documentation to support underwriting decisions.
• Monitor portfolio performance and contribute to the profitable development of the business.
• Keep up to date with developments across the marine insurance and shipping markets.
• Identify opportunities to develop the portfolio through existing relationships and new business connections.

Requirements

• Experience in Hull & Machinery or Cargo underwriting, with the opportunity to specialise in your area of expertise.
• Candidates from related backgrounds, including risk management and naval architecture, may also be considered.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess and evaluate risk.
• Good communication and relationship-building skills.
• A self-motivated, proactive approach and an interest in developing within the marine insurance market.
• An existing network of brokers, clients or industry contacts would be advantageous.
• Fluent English is required.
• German language skills would be beneficial but are not essential. A willingness to learn German is important.
