Your Next Step in Maritime Finance & Accounting Careers

There are two types of finance functions in the maritime sector, marine finance and corporate finance. Marine finance, which includes responsibilities in relation to vessels and voyages such as time charter hire, freight billing & collection, demurrage collection and marine accounting.

Corporate finance is more traditional, and the type of finance found in any organisation outside of the maritime industry. This function is responsible for the company’s finances such as credit control & cash management, financial reporting, audit, taxation and treasury.

The main difference between finance and accounting is the former is the management of assets and liabilities and the planning of future growth, whilst the latter is managing the day-to-day flow of money in and out of the business.

Real Life Stories from Marine Professionals

At the age of 25 I started in Danske Bank working my way up to becoming a Senior Executive Director for Capital Markets supporting several industries, including the Shipping Industry. I found the Shipping Industry to be intriguing and exciting, and it was a natural choice for me when leaving banking to join a reputable shipping company with strong Owners with long history in the maritime industry. At the age of 36 I joined as a CFO and have added additional responsibilities over the years to include Our terminals, procurement and ship management organization.

I have always been a passionate learner and have a degree from Norwegian School of Management, an MBA from Heriot-Watt and several Executive programs from Warton Business School in the US.

I love that the Shipping Industry is dynamic, spanning across the globe and have significant impact on the world economy. I love the people, the different cultures and the ability to influence important decisions taken.
