David Tubb

Director, Recruitment

David has been an integral part of Spinnaker since 2010, contributing his expertise across almost every division within the company. Now leading one of Spinnaker’s core teams, David brings over 15 years of experience in shipping and recruitment. His deep understanding of the maritime industry and his vast network of candidates and clients make him a key figure in sourcing top talent globally.

Throughout his career at Spinnaker, David has worked on a wide array of recruitment projects across various maritime sectors. Much of his early experience focused on technical roles, including marine engineering, ship management, surveying, and HSEQ/QHSE positions. Over the years, he has evolved his specialism to encompass corporate functions, such as business development, finance, marketing, and sales. He now recruits for a range of roles, from junior-level positions to C-suite executives, including Accountant, Sales Manager, and Business Development Director. His client base spans shipowners, ship managers, maritime associations, flag states, and maritime service companies in key shipping hubs worldwide. In addition, David is building and overseeing the Technical & Engineering desk in Singapore, further expanding Spinnaker's global footprint in these vital sectors.

David holds a Certificate in Recruitment Practice from the Recruitment & Employment Confederation and a BSc in Social Science from the University of Essex. As a seasoned recruiter, he has shared his insights at industry events, including the Shipping Professional Network in London (SPNL), Young Maritime Professionals, and the University of Strathclyde. David is regularly seen at recruitment and industry events across the country, further strengthening his industry connections.

In addition to his contingency recruitment expertise, David provides valuable guidance to candidates on CV writing, interview preparation, and navigating the recruitment process. His comprehensive knowledge of the maritime industry's challenges allows him to offer tailored recruitment solutions that align with the strategic objectives of the businesses he serves.

Interestingly, recruitment was not David’s original career aspiration. He once dreamed of becoming a pilot for the RAF or a commercial airline and even flew an aircraft solo at 16 while training for his private pilot’s license.

David is a rare breed among the recruiter community…in that he actually listens to both his clients and his candidates. David asks questions and really understands the brief and isn’t afraid to challenge it if he thinks it could benefit from a tweak. From a candidate’s perspective, you know that when he presents an opportunity to you, he will have already put some considerable thought into the suitability of the candidate. The hiring company receives a highly relevant and qualified selection of candidates, and the candidate doesn’t waste any time on irrelevant or unsuitable jobs. Great service, a skilled and trustworthy recruitment partner.
