Maritime technology is at the heart of modern shipping, offshore operations and port logistics. As the industry becomes increasingly connected and data-driven, technology teams play a critical role in ensuring vessels operate safely, efficiently and in full compliance with regulatory standards.
From onboard systems and satellite communications to cloud platforms, fleet management software and advanced analytics, maritime technology professionals design, build and support the digital infrastructure that powers global trade. These roles span software engineering, data and AI, cybersecurity, cloud and infrastructure, product development and digital transformation — supporting both operational assets at sea and strategic functions ashore.
With growing investment in automation, connectivity, sustainability and performance optimisation, maritime technology offers dynamic opportunities for professionals looking to shape the future of a truly global industry.
At Spinnaker we are here to help with your next maritime technology job role.
A Maritime Software Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software solutions used across maritime operations. This includes building and supporting applications for fleet management, vessel tracking, port systems, and onboard operational platforms. The role involves writing clean, scalable code, integrating systems with onboard hardware and third-party platforms, testing and debugging applications, and ensuring compliance with maritime and data security standards. There will be an element of collaboration as the Maritime Software Developer must work closely with operational teams, engineers, and IT stakeholders to deliver reliable and innovative digital solutions.
A Maritime Scrum Master is responsible for facilitating agile delivery within maritime technology teams. This includes guiding software development cycles for vessel systems, fleet platforms, port technologies, and enterprise maritime applications. The role involves leading sprint planning, removing obstacles, ensuring alignment between technical teams and operational stakeholders, and promoting continuous improvement. There will be an element of stakeholder engagement as the Maritime Scrum Master must ensure effective communication between developers, marine operations teams, and senior leadership to deliver technology solutions on time and to specification.
A Maritime Data Scientist is responsible for analysing and interpreting complex data generated across maritime operations. This includes working with vessel performance data, fuel consumption metrics, port activity records, weather data, and logistics information to identify insights and improve efficiency. The role involves building predictive models, developing algorithms, visualising data trends, and supporting decision-making across technical and operational teams. There will be an element of strategic input as the Maritime Data Scientist must translate analytical findings into practical recommendations that enhance safety, performance, and cost efficiency across fleets and maritime infrastructure.
