I began my career in the shipping industry as an Assistant at a small company that owned two bulk carrier vessels. In this role, I quickly became familiar with the company's core departments, building a solid foundation in the fundamentals of the industry.
I later received an opportunity to join Laskaridis Shipping Company Ltd, a major Greek ship-owning company with approximately 75 vessels, including bulk carriers and reefers. I started as an Administrative Assistant, and my strong performance led to a promotion as Executive Assistant to one of the two shipowners. This demanding role required adaptability, fast decision-making, and strong organizational skills, and I had the privilege of serving the company and family for nearly 16 years.
In early 2024, I was approached by Mark Cornelius from Spinnaker with an exciting opportunity at Union Maritime Ltd, a large UK-based company. Their Managing Director was seeking an experienced Executive Assistant for their Athens office, and I accepted the offer. I joined Union Maritime Ltd in March 2024 and continue to work there today, supporting leadership and contributing to the success of the organization. Working at this company is exciting, as the environment is both modern and innovative. Each day brings new, interesting tasks, making every experience dynamic and engaging.
I have never considered leaving the shipping industry, as it is dynamic and fast-growing. It offers ample opportunities for employee growth and provides lasting experiences. Even though my studies and qualifications are in different fields—my major and master's degree both relate to tourism and hospitality—I have successfully transitioned into the shipping industry.
My advice to young people looking to start their careers in shipping is to go for it and pursue this path! The shipping industry is both dynamic and exciting, offering numerous opportunities for building a successful future.
