Some shipping companies offer graduate or trainee schemes or internships which can help gain that first ‘step on the ladder’ in the maritime industry.
There can be two types of ‘trainee’, either a commercial trainee or a general management trainee. A commercial trainee is typically employed on a formal training or apprenticeship contract or graduate training scheme. Where a formal programme does not exist, the trainee is seen as being ‘in training’ (i.e. the job is regarded as educational). The trainee would gain experience in one or more commercial departments in the business and is likely to involve some form of external educational support.
A general management (non-commercial) trainee is also typically employed on a formal training or apprenticeship contract or graduate training scheme. However, they will be found working within, or across, non-commercial functions such as shipmanagement or corporate services.
Gain hands-on experience in the fast-paced world of shipbroking, assisting with market research, client interactions, and deal negotiations. This internship is ideal for those passionate about shipping and global trade.
Learn the basics of analysing shipping contracts and calculating demurrage claims, gaining insight into the financial and operational aspects of shipping. A great opportunity for detail-oriented individuals interested in maritime commerce.
