Why menopause belongs in every leadership conversation

What if one in three of your most experienced women were quietly struggling — or considering leaving — and you didn’t know why?

Workplaces were built around steady energy and linear careers, not the natural transitions in women’s lives. Women now represent one of the most experienced and valuable segments of the global workforce, yet many in midlife face one of the most challenging phases of their professional lives when perimenopause arrive. Still, most organisations avoid the topic.

The business case is clear. In the UK alone, menopause-related absence and lost productivity are estimated at £2.9 billion each year. In the US, the figure exceeds $1.8 billion, and globally, the impact is thought to surpass $150 billion. Awareness is essential, but it’s not enough.

From April 2026, large UK employers (those with 250 or more staff) will be encouraged to publish Equality Action Plans that include menopause support. From 2027, this is expected to become mandatory, alongside gender pay gap reporting. Forward-thinking leaders are preparing now choosing to lead, not react.

At Pause Effect by Torild, in partnership with Spinnaker, we help organisations retain talent, strengthen culture, and build environments where women can bring their full selves to work — with energy, clarity and confidence. Our work moves beyond awareness to action through interactive workshops, CPD-accredited coaching, and practical tools tailored to each organisation’s culture and needs.

Awareness opens the door. Support transforms the culture.
