EMPLOYMENT LAW UPDATE – APRIL 2008

Definition of harassment amended – the harassment need only be related to the sex of the victim or of another person. (The Sex Discrimination Act 1975 (Amendment) Regulations 2008)

Employers may also now be liable for gender harassment if they fail to take reasonably practicable steps to prevent repeated harassment of an employee by third parties. (This includes clients.)

Statutory sick pay has increased from £72.55 to £75.40

Statutory maternity, paternity and adoption pay have increased from £112.75 to £117.18

The Information and Consultation of Employees Regulations 2004 now apply to employers with 50 or more employees
