HAVING attended many of their events, Spinnaker is a committed fan of WISTA. So, we are pleased to see that shipping's women are coming home as WISTA Hellas prepares to host the International WISTA Conference, which will take place in Athens at the Divani Apollon Palace & Spa, Vouliagmeni, from September 29 to October 1, 2010.
The theme of the conference is Achieving Sustainability – Paving the Way to Shipping Excellence, and it will be addressed by an array of top speakers. They will lead discussions on how sustainable progress can be reached by promoting and strengthening social, economic and environmental balance and stability.
WISTA Hellas is numerically the largest national association of the Women�s International Shipping & Trading Association, which has grown substantially since it was formed 36 years ago by a few women brokers and other shipping specialists meeting socially in the City of London. Today there are more than 1,200 individual members in 28 national associations. WISTA focuses on education, mentoring, exchange of information and networking.
The Greek section was established in 1993 and numbers some 200 members, who are women in management level positions in the shipping sector.
The event in Greece is seen as a worthy continuation of the series of successful annual conferences, most recently London in 2009, New Orleans in 2008, and Copenhagen in 2007. The debating sessions will be complemented by visits to Greek industry, tourist highlights and social gatherings.
