WEST OF ENGLAND APPOINTS JERRY WESTMORE

We'd like to congratulate Jerry Westmore on his recent appointment as a Director of the West of England P&I Club's management arm.

From 1st September, Jerry will be responsible for business and product development at the Club, while Simon Parrott, an established member of the Club's underwriting team, will be in operational control of the underwriting department.

Richard Macnamara in Hong Kong will retain underwriting responsibility for the Club's membership in that part of the world.

Spinnaker facilitated Jerry's move. We have known Jerry well for a number of years and were not at all surprised that he was snapped up in a market that often suffers from having a small pond to fish in.

With more than 20 years of underwriting experience with Steamship Mutual and experience on the other side of the fence heading up P&I business at brokers Marsh and Price Forbes, he's quite a catch.

“The P&I industry is often criticized for being conservative and lacking innovation,” said Spinnaker's head of professional services Nicola Melas. "Experience as a broker is likely to be invaluable in the modern era, giving clubs an insight into owners' and brokers' thought processes and an understanding of what they expect of their P&I insurers going into the next decade."

Spinnaker's Chairman Phil Parry explained: “As an underwriter who is known for being strong technically as well as respected for his commercial grasp of the shipowning business (not to mention cricket), Jerry represents a real coup for the West of England and it is a testament to CEO Peter Spendlove, the rest of the management and the Club Board that he is joining them.”
