THE SIX BIG CRASHES

LAST month we published an article about the five big economic crashes in history.

Roger Holt of Knightsmart Ltd has written in to tell us that we forgot about the South Sea Bubble (precursor of the Bubble Act and dotcom ‘bubble’) of the 1720’s.

We’re happy to fall on our sword for this one, not least because it must rival ‘tulipomania’ in the race for best-named economic disaster.

However, not being as knowledgeable as Roger we had to look it up. It just goes to show that 280 years on, we haven’t learned a thing! It makes such compelling reading that we’ve published the story at the end of this edition. Thanks Roger – humans eh?!
