There’s a whole lot of talk this last year about the sharp rise in P&I claims caused by the chronic shortage of skilled and experienced crews.
This should not be altogether surprising – the industry has been aware of and talking about ‘human factors’ in claims for years.
The real problems is what on earth are we going to do about it?
By definition it’s impossible to create experience overnight and with all these newbuildings looming on the horizon isn’t the situation only going to get worse?
For all the talk of shortages and the need to do something about them we’d love to hear some of the good news stories. Please tell us who’s doing a good job of recruiting, training and retaining their seafarers.
