YEAR OF THE SEAFARER

AS the IMO Year of the Seafarer draws to a close, we should not forget that over 500 seafarers remain in captivity as a result of piracy. Let's hope that the new year will bring a solution to the piracy problem, so seafarers, who are so vital to the world's economies, can sail in safety.

We'd be interested to hear what you think. Has "Year of the Seafarer" made any difference? A lead article on Nautilus Telegraph this month certainly raises this question.

Another article on the same publication reports on the winner of the Oil & Gas UK award for overall excellence in the UK energy sector. The award was presented to "outstanding mariner" Captain Mark Arnold, master of supply ship Grampian Explorer. Blimey, they say you feel old when policeman start to look young! (Well done Mark by the way.)
