THE SHIPPING RECRUITMENT MARKET IN 2012

IT’S a funny old game isn’t it? One marine surveying company told us last week that they have never been so busy. And a couple of senior S&P brokers at different broking companies bemoaned the dreadful state of the market and predicted a dire year ahead while talking up how busy they are and their need for more staff.

It’s not as odd as it sounds. Recessions present opportunities to invest and plan for the future. It’s actually good to know that there is optimism about the long game. As we said in our welcome above, Spinnaker has more vacancies on the books now than we’ve ever had, but there’s no doubt that each pound is taking more work to earn. Clients are interviewing more people per job and jobseekers are less confident about moving on than they were in 2010 and 2011. Shades then of 2009 but without the fall in vacancies.

We’re currently looking for very senior chartering folk in gas and tankers, heads of legal and insurance, tanker head of fleet, senior S&P brokers, a board-level commercial VP for a shipping services group, a tanker CEO, a port operations manager (container/breakbulk) in the Middle East, liner General Managers in Spain and Germany …and many more.   We’re also looking for teams and takeover opportunities for major shipbroking clients – contact [email protected] if you’re looking to park your corporate car in a new garage.
