Karen Waltham, MD of HR Consulting at Spinnaker Global has been in Singapore this week, meeting maritime HR professionals and senior executives from across the Maritime HR Association membership.
In addition to a range of 1-2-1 breakfast, lunch, dinner and coffee meetings – Karen welcomed 60 maritime professionals to the BP head office earlier today. It was a great opportunity for our members to get together, share ideas and also to showcase the association to some interested non-members.
Networking events aren’t new for the Association, but this was certainly our biggest to date – and we owe huge thanks to our colleagues at BP for hosting the event and helping make it possible on such a scale.
As well as the usual networking opportunities over coffee and lunch, there was a range of speakers focusing mainly on maritime skills challenges in the local area. The Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) came to present and answer questions on their Skills Future programme – and we welcomed Julia Yeo from our partners Clyde & Co who talked about the Ministry of Manpower changes on policy making, quotas and employment passes. It was an informative and interactive event, also including a case study from our friends at BP, a session on motivation from Paralympic swimming coach Mick Massey and closing with a panel discussion on career challenges in Asia at present.
As the attendees head out for more networking and celebrating, here’s a glimpse of today’s main event: https://www.flickr.com/photos/spinnakerglobal/albums/72157671391777374/with/30033177152/
We’re already thinking ahead to our next networking session, so if you want to propose the location then please get in touch.
