OSCAR HITS GBP 300,000

SEVEN months in and the shipping industry has already raised £300,000 for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital’s OSCAR Campaign.  This is an incredible achievement and testament to the generosity of spirit that typifies people in shipping.

Based in London, Great Ormond Street treats the sickest children from all over the world, its largest international patient sources being Greece, Cyprus, Kuwait, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.  Funding for the Hospital’s new seas and oceans themed floor faces a shortfall, which is why the shipping industry has launched OSCAR, the Ocean and Shipping Community Advancing Children’s Health and Research.  The Campaign’s initial aim is to raise £500,000.

Significant donations have been made by shipbrokers, shipowners, law firms, insurance brokers and private individuals.  Their support and that of the many supporters who have helped to promote the campaign, including of course the OSCAR Campaign Board members who give up much of their valuable time, has been overwhelming.
