WITH the sustainable shipping issue at the top of the maritime agenda, those of you who have not looked at what is going on as part of the Forum for the Future’s Sustainable Shipping initiative should check out their website.
The Sustainable Shipping Initiative includes some of the best known names in shipping including: BP Shipping, Bunge, Cargill, Carnival, China Navigation Company, Maersk, Rio Tinto Marine and Tsakos Energy Navigation to name but a few. ABN Amro, and RSA are also involved as are Lloyd’s Register, Unilever, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marie Engineering and Wartsila.
As a first stage, members launched a Case for Action in May 2011. It analyses the social, environmental and economic challenges shipping faces and how best to react to them, and it calls on the industry to take far-reaching action.
On 31st October 2011, Vision 2040 was launched – a shared vision of an industry in 2040 which is resilient, socially and environmentally responsible and profitable the forum says.
