The European Career Mapping Project is a series of questionnaires aimed at seafarers at sea and between sea and shore, in order to improve career mobility.
750 people have already completed the questionnaires, including trainees, serving seafarers and ex-seafarers too.
The questionnaires are all-encompassing, including deck and engine departments, male and female seafarers, and perceptions about seafaring careers from all perspectives.
The data shows concerns about career progression, new challenges, retention, and finding jobs ashore and sheds light on the transition from sea to shore.
The final report will be published in November (jointly co-ordinated by the European Community Shipowners Association (ECSA) and the European Transport Workers Federation (ETF)) but is still open to those wishing to complete the questionnaire.
