This year has started as last year finished …busy! Market predictions may not be for a rapid recovery but that isn’t stopping many in shipping investing in the future.
As The Economist said in 2011 "In the new world of work, unemployment is high yet skilled and talented people are in short supply." Nowhere is this more true than in shipping and with the hiring hiatus from the 1970s now causing a lack of 50-somethings, the 40-somethings are stepping up to replace the nearly 60-somethings who are starting to retire.
Recruitment isn’t any different however. It is perhaps an irony that the recruitment industry can’t find experienced talent for itself. Here at Spinnaker we have recruited 15 trainees in as many months with the aim of training them well in readiness for the economic recovery.
And so it is that we are seeing a much better market than this time last year. Spinnaker is currently recruiting for some of the best and biggest names in shipping for roles as diverse as CFO, heads of risk and insurance, global head of S&P, marine and energy insurance brokers, GM offshore, head of reefers, demurrage analysts, underwriters, lawyers, fleet managers, superintendents, vetting staff and a range of chartering staff and shipbrokers.
