Since international sanctions on Iran were lifted at the beginning of this year, the country has been working hard to stage a comeback in the global shipping industry.
Iran has one of the largest oil and gas reserves in the world and is now free to trade globally, although it is currently struggling to increase exports as many of its tankers are not deemed to be seaworthy.
Deals relating to shipbuilding, ship classification and port development have been signed with South Korea, but until Iran has modernised its tanker fleet, the country is forced to charter European and Asian-owned vessels to ship Iranian oil.
On the other hand, container majors are already returning their operations to Iran’s ports and Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines has recently re-opened its liner service to European ports.
Against this backdrop, HR Consulting, as secretariat of the Maritime HR Association, has received its first request for shore-side salary benchmarking data in Iran.
In order to comply with US antitrust legislation, the Association only publishes benchmarking reports for locations which have a minimum of five companies providing data.
