£117,000 raised for GOSH

A huge thank you to everyone involved in Friday’s OSCAR Dragon Boat Race for your time, fundraising efforts and your own private and corporate donations. Too many individuals deserve a mention for their personal input, be that fundraising, recruiting rowers for their team, persuading their bosses to support the event and in many other ways. Suffice it to say that you know who you are and your contributions are hugely appreciated,

Every year I think we won’t pull it off, but every year we come through and the estimated running total is £117,000 raised last Friday, taking the OSCAR Campaign total to well over £1.8 million. That amount of money has a very real impact on the work done by the frontline research teams and medics we support at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.

Congratulations to the winners, Union Maritime, who pipped Oldendorff Carriers to the post by three-tenths of a second. In third place were C.Solutions themselves only three-tenths of a second behind Oldendorff. In fourth place, the Baltic Exchange. In fifth place, Swire. In sixth place, A.M.Nomikos. This year we were honoured to have Oscar himself rowing in Oldendorff’s boat.

And of course, many congratulations to the biggest fundraisers, Oldendorff Carriers, who have raised £11,367 so far, with more pledges to come from their supporters.

The photos are all available online here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/spinnakerglobal/albums, thanks to our volunteer photographer Tim Browne who gives his time for free every year.

One more thank you to our wonderful sponsors: The Liberian Registry (five years in a row!), Blue Seas Adjusters, Spinnaker Global and Borealis Maritime. And thanks also to the band, A No Good Woman and The King Snakes, who also gave their time.

The OSCAR Dragon Boat Race will return in 2019 as the finale event of London International Shipping Week on Friday 13 September 2019. SAVE THE DATE and see you next year!
