We read recently that Scotland's First Minister, Alex Salmond, has announced the creation of Scotland’s first national oil and gas academy, in an attempt to boost the industry and address the skills shortage.
Salmond has also pledged to improve oil and gas training facilities within Scotland, and create possibilities for new energy sector development.
A known ambassador for the growing oil and gas industry, he is keen to promote the sector as a chance for graduates and engineers to pursue new careers.
The Scottish government estimates that oil and gas reserves make up to £1.5trillion annually and Salmond is keen to push Scotland as a pioneer of wind, wave and tidal resources alongside the existing reserves.
Spinnaker has a wide range of jobs in Scotland, from HR Advisors and Vessel Managers to Technical Superintendents and Naval Architects and we are starting to see an increase in demand from the wider energy sector as they look towards shipping as a solution to their skills problem.
