The time is fast approaching for maritime HR and crewing professionals from across the world to come together again at the 2023 Spinnaker Maritime People & Culture Conference. The annual event will be held on the 11th and 12th May at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
This year marks the 15th edition of the conference, which will feature informative sessions and networking opportunities with some of the world’s biggest shipowners, ship managers, P&I clubs and oil majors.
Phil Parry, chairman of Spinnaker, said: “We’ll be covering the most current and pressing issues for the maritime sector, and hearing from HR leaders. It sounds like a cliche but it’s true that people are at the heart of everything we do in shipping, and now more than ever, people management is a crucial element for success in our industry.”
Each session will have an overarching theme, and a taster of the topics that will be included on the agenda are diversity, equity & inclusion, inflation and the cost of living, the 4-day week, AI in the context of HR, and effective leadership communication.
Heidi Watson, Employment Partner at Clyde & Co was a speaker at last year’s Maritime People & Culture conference and will also be contributing to this year’s edition of the event, discussing the use of AI in recruitment and HR. She said: “Many employers rely on artificial intelligence to help with recruitment, management, and redundancy processes as AI can deliver huge efficiencies. However, a reliance on AI also exposes employers to discrimination and other legal risk. The presentation I will be delivering will help employers to understand the risks with using AI, outline the steps that they can take to address those risks and mitigate the possibility of legal, reputational, and financial exposure.”
Members of the Maritime HR Association are eligible for a free delegate space at the conference and can get in touch with the Spinnaker team to reserve a ticket. If you are not a member, tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite at the following link: https://2023spinnakerconference.eventbrite.co.uk
