Work the room…in comfortable shoes

Our Renewable Energy Consultant Kelly Knightsbridge tells us her top tips for attending exhibitions fresh from her trip to Offshore Europe 16 in Amsterdam this week…

1. Wear comfortable shoes!

My footwear was utterly fabulous for this event, but sadly not at all practical when you think of the miles covered at huge exhibitions like this. It’s probably tantamount to walking a half marathon, so new boots had to be purchased (shame). Next time I’ll wear a pedometer!

2. Network, network, network…

I gained wonderful insight into certain areas of the offshore energy industry by chatting to people. I met some enigmatic business owners who made my day with their enthusiasm and passion. You’ve got to work the room and be bold. You’ll meet some interesting characters who can’t wait to willingly offer their expertise. But also make time to…

3. Simply sit!

One communications company owner was an inspiring force to be reckoned with, and it was a great chance for us to share our industry thoughts and experiences.

4. Be selective with what you take home

There will be a deluge of brochures, flyers, pens and giveaways at these enormous exhibitions. Sometimes just simply trying to find the bathroom will turn into running a gauntlet of suppliers and providers launching marketing literature at you. I politely accepted an enormous brochure (giving my right side a considerable workout) only to find that I’ve already got one in the office! Rookie error…
