Spinnaker's Business Development Director, and champion of women in shipping, Teresa Peacock, is this week in Montreal for the annual WISTA conference.
WISTA (the Women's International Shipping and Trading Association) is a membership body of almost 2,000 women in management positions across the maritime transportation industry.
Teresa, who is also very much a part of WISTA, will be representing Maria Dixon, President, WISTA-UK at the conference. Following the success of last year's International Conference held in Paris, WISTA Canada has chosen the theme of 'Navigating the Seas of Change'.
Teresa was interviewed for IMPA's Marine Trader magazine earlier this month on the subject of women in shipping, and said "The Davies Report 2011 highlighted how difficult it was for women generally. Only 5.8% of directors are female. 47% of graduates are female, yet only 19% of senior management are female. We have a long way to go. What many people don’t realise is that this isn't just a female issue, it's a business issue. It's not just women who should be paying attention."
We look forward to hearing from Teresa how the conference went, and the no doubt interesting topics that come up…
