As part of our 30 Under 30 initiative, we’re celebrating the next generation of leaders shaping the future of the maritime industry. Next up is Dimitrios, Senior Engineer at ABS, and a standout emerging talent at the intersection of engineering, regulation, and digital innovation.
Dimitrios plays a critical role within ABS’s London Emission Verifications team, working across some of the industry’s most complex and fast-evolving regulatory frameworks, including FuelEU, EU ETS, MRV schemes, EEXI/EEDI, and IMO decarbonisation requirements. Alongside this, he leads engineering reviews for marine machinery compliance, manages Factory Acceptance Tests, and supports clients through technical evaluations, quotations, and regulatory approvals across global fleets.
What makes Dimitrios particularly distinctive is the breadth of his influence beyond traditional engineering. He has been selected among a small group within ABS to help develop and train internal AI tools designed to improve workflow efficiency and technical decision-making—positioning him at the forefront of how digitalisation is being embedded into class and verification processes.
In parallel, he plays a highly active role in the wider engineering community, serving as Membership Chair for SNAME and Secretary of the Hellenic Engineers Society of Great Britain (HESGB), where he supports networking, mentorship, and professional development for engineers across the UK and Europe.
Over the past 12 months, Dimitrios has become the youngest Senior Engineer in ABS London and is progressing toward chartership while also undertaking a PhD focused on nuclear energy applications in the maritime sector. His work reflects a rare combination of deep technical expertise, academic ambition, and industry leadership.
What sets him apart is not only his technical capability, but his drive to connect engineering, regulation, and people. From advancing AI adoption in class workflows to mentoring the next generation of engineers, Dimitrios consistently operates beyond his role—helping shape both the future of maritime regulation and the community around it.
Having built his career from the ground up after moving to the UK independently, Dimitrios has demonstrated resilience, ambition, and a strong commitment to supporting others on similar journeys. He stands out as a 30 Under 30 nominee not only for what he has achieved, but for the impact he continues to make across the industry.
