30 under 30: Fabian Fussek

As part of our 30 Under 30 initiative, we’re celebrating the next generation of leaders who are shaping the future of the maritime industry. Next up is Fabian Fussek, CEO and co-founder of Kaiko Systems, who is driving the digital transformation of frontline operations in global shipping through an AI-powered platform that replaces manual reporting with real-time data, improving safety, compliance, and efficiency across ship and shore teams.

Fabian Fussek is at the forefront of one of maritime’s most important transformations: bringing trust, structure, and intelligence to how frontline vessel operations are recorded and understood. As CEO and co-founder of Kaiko Systems, he is leading the shift away from manual, paper-based workflows toward real-time, AI-powered digital systems that are reshaping how safety, compliance, and operational performance are managed at sea.

Rather than simply digitising existing processes, Fabian’s vision has been to fundamentally rethink them. Under his leadership, Kaiko has developed a platform that turns routine onboard activities, such as inspections, maintenance, and reporting, into structured, verifiable data that can be used across critical industry frameworks including SIRE, RISQ, and Port State Control preparation. The result is not only greater efficiency, but a step-change in reliability and transparency for ship and shore teams alike.

What makes Fabian particularly compelling as a leader is his ability to operate at the intersection of technology and the realities of life at sea. He has focused on building tools that work in low-connectivity environments, are intuitive for crews under pressure, and genuinely reduce administrative burden rather than adding to it. In doing so, he has helped reduce inspection preparation times by up to 60% for operators, while improving outcomes across global fleets.

Over the past year, Fabian has led Kaiko through a major phase of growth and international expansion. He secured a €6M Series A funding round, enabling the company to scale its AI capabilities and accelerate product development. At the same time, he has grown the team from 20 to over 50 people, building out the engineering, product, and commercial functions required to support a rapidly expanding global customer base.

His leadership has also driven Kaiko’s international footprint, including the opening of a Singapore office to support key operators across the Asia-Pacific region. This expansion reflects both the scalability of the platform and Fabian’s ability to position the business at the centre of global maritime operations.

Beyond product and commercial success, Fabian has become a visible voice in the industry’s digital transformation. He regularly speaks at major events such as Singapore Maritime Week and contributes to wider conversations on how AI and data can improve safety, compliance, and operational decision-making, always with a clear focus on supporting, not replacing, seafarers.

Fabian’s journey stands out because of the scale of the challenge he has taken on. He is helping modernise a deeply traditional industry where trust is hard-won and change is often slow, building technology that must perform reliably in some of the most demanding environments in the world. His ability to combine technical innovation with practical industry understanding has positioned Kaiko Systems as a key player in maritime digitalisation—and Fabian himself as one of the most exciting young leaders driving that change.
